The “terratza” open-air roof top patio is adorned by a grape vine that always brings to mind one of the stories I use to read to my children- The Fox and the Grapes, of Aseops Fables “…… Drawing back a few paces, he took a run and a jump, and just missed the bunch. Turning round again with a One, Two, Three, he jumped up, but with no greater success. Again and again he tried after the tempting morsel, but at last had to give it up, and walked away with his nose in the air, saying: "I am sure they are sour."……….. Except that we do not have to run and jump and there are times when the grapes hang so heavily you might have to duck! And, sour they are not! We pass the seasons with great anticipation from pruning and waiting for the first bud until the last tempting morsel is consumed. It is a wonderful vine that gives us easy to pick leaves for the traditional Cypriot stuffed grape leaves to eat, and lots of lovely grapes to eat, offer to friends and then even more for the making of some traditional Cypriot Desserts the grape pudding-“palouza.” Also, almond strings dipped in grape pudding-“sejuko” and if the yield is very good some “grape honey”. If not looking up at the vine and its’ grapes there is always a wonderful view of the village and mountains or enjoy our very large private central courtyard-“avli”.
